Incredible food. Staff was very personable. place has character.

The ribeye was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and served with a yummy gravy and bulb of garlic - so flavorful! One of the best steaks I've ever had.

They also had an oxtail special that I'd love to see added to the regular menu. They were falling off the bone and delicious!

Recommendations: chicken gizzards, ribeye, collard greens, bread pudding

Located on the corner of Magazine Street in the vibrant Garden District, Gris-Gris offers a fresh, modern take on classic Cajun and Creole cuisine. My party of three visited for an early Saturday dinner, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We opted to sit on the second-floor balcony, which boasts a quintessential New Orleans atmosphere, complete with charming black wrought iron railings and a perfect view of the bustling street below.

The timing of our visit was strategic—Gris-Gris offers an all-week happy hour that runs until 6 p.m., and the happy hour menu is a fantastic way to sample dishes and drinks from their main menu at a more budget-friendly price. We took full advantage of this, ordering the muffuletta bruschetta and Natchitoches meat pies, along with a round of cocktails that included the Satsuma 75, Petit Daiquiri, and a classic Old Fashioned. Each drink was expertly crafted and complemented our appetizers perfectly, so much so that we ended up ordering a second round.

A special mention goes to our waitress, who was not only friendly and attentive but also made sure to let us know when we were nearing the end of happy hour—giving us the opportunity to sneak in one last drink before prices returned to normal. The appetizers were generously portioned, flavorful, and satisfying, making it easy for us to decide to keep it light on the mains. Instead of ordering full entrees, we shared a bowl of the gumbo and the Whole Creole Redfish Bouillon. Both dishes were outstanding, with the gumbo being rich and hearty, and the redfish cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside, tender and flaky inside.

Of course, no meal at Gris-Gris would be complete without indulging in their legendary bread pudding. Served warm and a-la-mode, it’s the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal—rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious.

Gris-Gris strikes a perfect balance between modern and traditional, offering a refined take on New Orleans flavors in a casual, inviting setting. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick happy hour bite or settling in for a full meal, Gris-Gris is a must-visit if you find yourself on Magazine Street, especially before 6 p.m. for the happy hour deals.

We sat on the balcony, the weather was beautiful. It is a great place to look down and people watch. Our waitress Thyme was fantastic, she had amazing recommendations, was attentive and so friendly. The bloody marry is one of the best I have had.

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is very welcoming. We ordered the burger and fries and the gumbo. The flavors were full and delicious. The staff is incredibly friendly. For dessert, I had the bread pudding with house-made caramel. It was so delicious that I savored every bite. Highly recommend!

We came here twice because it was just that good. Our two waitresses were Alexia and Lindsey they both were amazing. Very friendly and extremely helpful with the menu and suggestions. The burger is so good probably the best one we have ever had. The upstairs balcony seating was so pretty at night.

Fantastic food, great service, love the look and feel of the place, can’t say enough good things about it here.

Started off with the oyster blt and that’s absolutely how you want to start your meal. Went with a few friends so for entrees we got the creole redfish, the ribeye and the cast iron seared fish. Not a single complaint in here but I’d go for the creole fish. It comes out whole and it’s light and flaky. Will absolutely be back.

Gris-Gris was recommended to my wife and I before our trip to New Orleans.

We did go there and were glad we did. The food was creative and some of the best tasting we had during our several days there.

We ordered the chicken and andouille gumbo as well as the catfish and cajun poboy (along with a few drinks). The meal was outstanding and one of the highlights of our time in New Orleans. The kitchen for Gris-Gris is unique in that it's open and in the main dining room on the first floor. My wife and I wanted to see up close so we sat by the counter right next to where the kitchen is.

I would also like to add that we happened to spend a few minutes talking to Eric Cook (chef / owner) of Gris-Gris. As was true of people we met in New Orleans, Eric was fun, interesting and engaging to talk to. We asked if he had a recommendation for a jazz club, which he was happy to share with us (among them The Spotted Cat).

Great restaurant, great owner.

The food is great, the drinks are mediocre. We attended this establishment on a Saturday with a 5pm reservation. We ordered appetizers, drinks, & main entrees. As we ordered our last round of drinks we asked to close the tab. While finishing the drinks and not shortly after paying we were asked to vacate for incoming patrons. This left a very sour taste in our mouth considering we had to slam our drinks and move from our seats where we as a party of two spent $200 for an 1hr & 1/2 meal. If we would’ve known there was a time limit we would’ve left much earlier. It was sad that we were asked to leave right after paying.
