I had a very subpar experience with Sarah for makeup. During the trial, I found the eyebrow makeup to be way too heavy handed and unnaturally square (looked drawn on), lip color was very off (muddy grayish-purple) and made me look like a corpse, the eyeliner was not refined and the blush was placed far too low on my face, resulting in a dragged, droopy look. In addition, sparkly blush (not matte) was used, and enhanced every pore on my cheeks. I submitted this feedback in the trial form, as I was told anything can be modified and that they would take my notes into account the day of.

Unfortunately, on the day of the wedding, it became clear that none of the notes had been read or followed. The application felt very rushed, and the artist seemed stressed. The exact same makeup techniques as described above were used, and when I wanted to look at the mirror and asked for certain things (minimal brow makeup to avoid a harsh look, brighter lip color), I was met with resistance and frustration on the part of the artist (“just wait till the end, it will come together”). I waited till the end and, unfortunately, had the same outcome. I requested some of the eyebrow makeup be brushed off, but by that time the makeup had already been set with setting spray and was not really budging. Sparkly blush heavily placed low on cheeks again had the same drooping effect. Lip color was very dull and grayish, and I ended up adding some of my own berry lipstick to try and liven it up.

Sadly, the wedding photos really amplified all the issues above. The makeup looked heavy handed and unrefined, I didn’t feel quite like myself or comfortable in my skin, and I felt disappointed. I am sharing this in the hopes that it might help other brides-to-be: please choose your makeup artist or team carefully, and if something feels off in the trial, definitely go somewhere else- your feedback may never be taken into account.

Amber did a wonderful job on the hair and makeup for two of my bridesmaids, and I can't recommend her enough! She helped them create absolutely stunning styles that were timeless and classy yet unique based on their reference photos. They truly looked their best! Amber was organized and communicative throughout the wedding planning process and on the big day, which made things easy for me. She was on time for a 5am arrival and worked seamlessly alongside artists from another company, going above and beyond by introducing herself to them before wedding day. I'm so grateful to have found Amber and would definitely hire her again!

Amber successfully cut my bangs on THE DAY OF MY WEDDING.. yes, I know that kind of a thing is not recommended, but she took on the challenge and made me feel beautiful! Being an out of town bride, I was very nervous about having my trial 2 days before my wedding and working with stylists that I did not know... but Amber and Astia were wonderful to work with!! They were calm, kind, and talented! They made all of us feel and look our very best!

As a bride-to-be, I had high hopes for Something Beautiful Hair and Makeup. I was looking forward to a memorable and stress-free trial, but unfortunately, my encounter with my assigned artist left much to be desired.
During the trial session, I encountered a series of setbacks that shattered my confidence in their abilities. I wanted a smokey eye with light facial makeup and an up-do. I found the artist's makeup application skills to be subpar. The final result did not align with the vision or inspiration photos I had provided, and it fell far short of the standard I expected for my wedding day. The many makeup issues included: using a mahogany brown eyeliner pencil on my brows when I have brown-black hair, applying the darker eyeshadow of the smoky eye in a stripe that extended from my lash line to brow bone, not blending the eyeshadows so I had two stripes (one dark and one light) on my eyelid, not extending foundation application to my neck, false eyelashes that were glued to my lashes rather than my eyelid, not setting foundation/concealer with powder resulting in creased makeup before the trial was over.
While attempting to style my hair with a curling iron, the artist unfortunately burned my face. When I said in surprise “you burned me”, the artist told me I was wrong and had just felt the heat of the iron. Even after I showed her the burn, there was no apology offered. This lack of empathy was deeply concerning and left me feeling unsettled.
Following my trial, I reached out to the owner, Amber, to express my disappointment and work toward a solution. Although Amber apologized and offered a new trial with another artist, I felt she made significant efforts to defend and justify the behavior and skills (or lack thereof) of the first artist. While I understand that mistakes can happen, especially in a creative industry like hair and makeup, it is essential for artists to take accountability for their actions and strive to rectify any errors. Unfortunately, Something Beautiful failed to meet even this basic expectation.
As a bride preparing for one of the most significant days of my life, I cannot overstate the importance of feeling confident and beautiful in my appearance. However, my experience with Something Beautiful had left me feeling anything but that. Instead, I was left grappling with concerns about their competency and professionalism. I ultimately decided to terminate my contract as I could not risk being assigned another inept artist with my wedding day approaching. Although I was refunded my remaining balance, I lost out on the money spent on the trial.
I cannot in good conscience recommend Something Beautiful to other brides-to-be. I am sure they employ other talented artist. I would suggest brides request a specific artist, rather than risk being assigned an artist like the one I was provided. The lack of apology for the burn incident, coupled with subpar makeup skills, created an experience that fell short of the standard expected for bridal beauty

Wow! Where do I begin.. Amber was absolutely amazing! I got married this past weekend and we are from out of state, my photographer recommended something beautiful styles and I am so thankful she did!!!! I was so indecisive on my makeup for the wedding and I ended up changing what I wanted from the trial to the actual day. Amber the entire time listened to what I wanted without making me not feel like me. She did an amazing job on my makeup and my bridesmaids. Something Beautiful Hair & Makeup is hands down the best team to make that happen!! I first scheduled a consultation/trial for my engagement photos and I was blown away by Amber’s work.
